Dish Society Switches from Quickbooks to Compeat and Reduces Costs by 5%

“In just 6 months of using Compeat we were able to reduce our controllable costs of goods by an average of 5%.  This results in an overall gain of profits of $300,000 a year!” said Trent Patterson, Director of Operations for Dish Society.

There is a common theme among restaurants who come to Compeat looking for a restaurant accounting solution – they all previously relied on Quickbooks to manage their accounting and were seeking a restaurant specific accounting solution that would integrate to their Point of Sale System.

Compeat is the superior choice in restaurant accounting systems.  To prove this statement, we interviewed several of our customers who used Quickbooks prior to Compeat and four benefits came up time and time again – information flow from POS through accounting, customized financial reporting, integrated operational and financial control, and restaurant specific features.

One of the customers we interviewed shared details about their experience with us.  Dish Society, a casual farm to table restaurant concept located in Houston, TX, used to rely on Quickbooks to manage accounting and utilized a separate manual inventory system to manage their back office.  Quickbooks was not integrated with their Aloha POS so daily sales were posted to accounting by hand.  It would take 30-45 days at month end to get accurate financials making it impossible to do a timely analysis of their daily business.

Dish Society realized that to run their business more efficiently they needed a financial and operational control system that was fully integrated with their POS.  They implemented Compeat in June of 2015 and immediately began seeing food and beverage cost savings from the built-in ability to monitor actual vs. theoretical costs and their controllable cost of goods.

“In just 6 months of using Compeat we were able to reduce our controllable costs of goods by an average of 5%.  This results in an overall gain of profits of $300,000 a year!” said Trent Patterson, Director of Operations for Dish Society.

A seamless integration to their Aloha POS system has allowed Dish Society to automate and streamline their reconciliation and general ledger posting processes. POS information is captured, reported, reconciled, and posted to their General Ledger and banking system in one easy step. Data is entered just one time reducing redundant entry and room for human entry error.

The days of waiting 30-45 days to get month end financials are long gone for Dish Society. With Compeat they can get all the financial information they need within 3 days at the end of each period.  This allows managers to take a real time, actionable approach to drive behavior based on comparable month end reports.

As an added bonus Dish Society was also able to reduce their labor costs by 5% by switching to Compeat’s end-to-end restaurant management system!

“Compeat is a one stop shop for everything we need. It provides us with a central platform that everyone can access at any time and brings structure to our operation. We could not be more pleased,” says Patterson.
